The holidays are best celebrated when friends and family are near, but for many, physically being together during the holidays isn’t always an option. Instead, some families may rely on technology to keep them as close as possible.
Although nothing can fully compare to the physical presence of loved ones, thankfully we live in a time where our technology is the next best thing! Being away from loved ones is always harder to accept during the holidays, but if this past year+ has taught us anything, it’s that we’re strong and can learn to adapt to just about anything!
Here’s how to keep in touch with family during the holidays when you can’t physically be together.
HOW TO KEEP IN TOUCH WITH FAMILY DURING THE HOLIDAYS:
Connect on Social Media
Social media makes it easy to stay connected with loved ones in an instant. There are tons of ways to be social on social media while still keeping things private. From photo and video sharing apps to messengers, the possibilities are endless! WhatsApp is great for this!
Create a Private Facebook Group
Creating a private group on Facebook for you and your close friends and family is a great way to stay connected in a more private manner. You can use the group to share photos, videos, and stories all in one place while controlling exactly who sees your content. This is especially convenient for those far apart in different time zones since instant access via phone call or text may not always be an option!
Start a Blog
Blogging is a wonderful way to document your day-to-day happenings. For military or long distance families that may not have the option to speak to one another everyday, this is a great way to recap daily thoughts and events, which can be conveniently read at any time. You can also see this to private if you want to limit who has access.
Write a Letter
Although not as instant as social media, a hand written letter is a timeless way to keep in touch with loved ones, and is a great way to add a personal touch. In addition to writing letters, a fun way to stay connected can be through photos. You can always create a photo album or scrapbook to send to loved ones!
If you and your loved ones will be separated for the holidays, be sure to try something new to stay in touch with each other this year!
I’m excited to announce that I am one of Google’s paid early testers for their Thank with Google pilot program! Thank with Google is an experimental feature that allows you to purchase a virtual sticker to directly show your appreciation as a loyal supporter for the work that goes into creating the free content found on my website!

Every time you decide to send a paid sticker, you can add a personal message too! It’s supporters like you that help keep this website running! Please know that I take great pride in the community I’ve created in this space over the past 8 years and any level of support, big or small, means the world to me!
You can find the Thank with Google button feature at the top and bottom of any of my posts, as well as on the sidebar of this website. If you test it out let me know what you think!
