Wow! I can’t believe I’m just now getting around to writing this post as we’re finally in the home stretch, but better late than never right!? Anyway, incase you somehow haven’t heard the news yet, SURPRISE, we’re having a baby!!! Chris and I can’t wait to grow our family and welcome our first into the world!
I originally made the announcement on Instagram back in February and I wanted to say thank you again to everybody that reached out to share in the excitement and congratulate us!
I also told y’all on stories that I’d be answering any pregnancy related questions you had, so here’s me fulfilling my promise to you! I made sure to save them all so I wouldn’t forget! I personally love reading these types of posts and learning about other people’s journeys, so this is definitely something I didn’t want to skip out on doing for y’all! Let’s get right to it!
When is your due date?
I am due August 20, 2021. Fun fact: baby’s due date is 1 day before Chris’s birthday! My mom and I share a birthday, so how cool would that be if Chris and the baby also share a birthday!?
Were you trying? How long?
#1 asked question and I don’t mind answering. Short answer: Yes, we were trying! We were truly blessed with getting pregnant on the first try. We started trying in November and got our first positive test on December 4. I know this is not always the case for everybody, and in fact I had convinced myself that there was no way this would even be possible so quickly. I know everyone’s journey is different and this can be an extremely personal and emotional time. My heart goes out to anyone that is currently trying, struggling, battling a loss, and everything in between.
Did you do anything to prepare?
Prior to really trying, I did track my ovulation for about 3 months just to get a feel for my body. I used this ovulation test kit which came highly recommend. I’ve always had fairly regular cycles, and tracking the ovulation helped me get a better idea of exactly how my body was functioning and when I was ovulating. I really think this helped us the most to see the big picture.
How did you tell Chris?
It wasn’t grand, but it was special and in the moment, together! I’ve always dreamed I’d have this huge surprise all planned out to share this type of news with Chris, but to be honest, we were both so involved in the process, it all just happened naturally in the moment! We assumed it was way too soon for a positive line to appear, but for fun we decided I should take one anyway since I had a bunch of tests that came along in my ovulation kit. I took the test, and then we both looked at the results at same time. Sure enough there was a faint but visible line! Chris immediately started jumping and screaming in excitement! I on the other hand was in denial and told him there’s no way and to not get our hopes up haha!! Total mood kill, right!?! I just couldn’t believe it! We immediately went to Target to grab some more tests from different brands to see if we’d keep getting positives and sure enough they were! That’s when it finally set in and started to feel real! I will never forget that special moment!
Will you find out the gender?
It was always the plan to find out the gender! I don’t know how you mommas that keep it a surprise all along do it, but props to you! We did an early gender ultrasound at 14 weeks and had the ultrasound tech write the gender down in a concealed envelope so we could find out with everyone 2 weeks later at our gender reveal party!
Gender predictions?
I always had a feeling my first would be a boy for some reason, so I was 100% convinced this baby would be a boy, without a doubt! Chris on the other hand had several dreams that the baby was a girl, so he was convinced this baby would be a girl!
Did you have any morning sickness?
Not at all! Again, I realize I am truly blessed here! I couldn’t have had an easier first trimester. Stay tuned though, my body sure did make up for that later…
When did you start taking prenatal vitamins?
I started taking my prenatals about 3 months before we started trying, around the same time I started tracking my ovulation. I’ve always heard it was good to start taking folate prior to getting pregnant, so I made this a priority.
What’s it like being pregnant during a pandemic?
We’ve been super cautious during the whole pandemic, so really nothing changed as far as our day to day routines went. Mask wearing, outdoor dining, and avoiding large crowds was and still is the norm for us. My doctor’s office still has strict restrictions in place as a precaution, so Chris hasn’t been allowed to go to any appointments with me except for the anatomy scan. The situation is not ideal, but I get why they do it.
Any cravings or food aversions?
Much to my surprise, my cravings haven’t been nearly as bad as I thought they would be! The only thing I’ve really craved is dessert, and I mean ALLLLL of the dessert! I’m normally the type of person that favors salty foods, but not while pregnant! I guess you could say I had aversions to regular meals, because my ideal meal in my mind would be a bowl of cake and ice cream! I was very sensitive to smells in the first trimester, especially pizza baking in the oven at home, despite pizza really being one of the main hot foods I was ever in the mood to eat! I also couldn’t stand the thought of eating grilled steak quesadillas, which I normally would always be down for! Pregnancy is strange!
