Sticking to a healthy routine can be tough as is, and even tougher while on vacation! I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve fallen out of a healthy routine after taking a “break” while on vacation. Sticking to a healthy routine may not be easy for everybody, but it’s not impossible!
This year I promised myself I would at least try to stick to a healthy routine, even while I’m on vacation. We haven’t been anywhere since Disney World back in December, and that alone was a lot of walking, so that trip doesn’t count, but my vacations going forward will for sure count!
For anyone needing a little motivation, I’ve decided to share how I plan to stick to a healthy routine while on vacation. Perhaps we can all motivate each other!
HOW TO STICK TO A HEALTHY ROUTINE WHILE ON VACATION
Plan to Stay Active
Yes, vacations are meant for relaxing, but that doesn’t mean you have to be completely inactive! If you want to stick to your normal routine, it’s best to not break it while in vacay mode! Try to keep the pattern going by planning to stay active! Setting aside an extra 30 minus for a quick morning workout is key to success, or depending where you are, lots of walking that’s naturally part of your day can count too (I’m looking at you, Disney World)!
Pack Accordingly
Be sure to pack accordingly if you plan to stay active during your vacation! Don’t forget your favorite workout clothes (I’m loving this open back tank for spring!) and your workout shoes! These Adidas shoes are super comfy for casual walking and lifting.
Research Your Meals Ahead of Time
It’s okay to go out to eat! After all, you’re on vacation right! But when you’re trying to be healthy, it’s best to explore all of your options ahead of time to ensure you can eat something that you won’t feel guilty about later! Browsing menus ahead of time has always worked best for me, that way I can plan my other meals throughout the day too, especially if I know my out to eat meal may not be as healthy as I’d like!
Don’t Eat Out Every Meal
If you’re on a strict diet while on vacation, the easiest way to stick to it is to not eat out every meal! It may be worth the extra money to stay in a rental with a full kitchen just to have the ability to cook your own healthy meals.
Plan to Get Home at a Reasonable Time
The best part about vacations is having to come home and face reality, said no-one ever! The needing a vacation after a vacation struggle is real, but it doesn’t always have to be the case! Over time I’ve learned that it’s much easier to get back in the swing of things when we make it a point to get home from vacation at a reasonable time. This gives you time to relax, unpack, wash clothes, etc. so the next day can resume like normal and you can get right back into your healthy routine!
