Although it’s not even Christmas yet, I figured now would be a good time to get a head start on thinking about new year’s resolutions for 2019. I always get off track during the holidays, so I feel that talking about this with y’all is the best way to stay focused!
When it comes to making resolutions, I’m all for keeping things realistic and attainable, because let’s be honest – if you’re not setting realistic goals, you’re setting yourself up for failure and nobody wants that! The majority of my goals for 2019 are centered around fitness, since that’s what I struggle to stick with the most, and a healthy work and life balance.
MY REALISTIC NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS
Go to the Gym 3-4 Times Per Week
When it comes to going to the gym, I’m usually the type of person that goes all in 100% or nothing. Meaning, when I go, I go daily and I try to hit up 2 different classes for a total of about 2 hours per day. The problem with this is I eventually get burned out. I love it while I’m there, but the second my busy schedule and life takes over, I find it challenging to get back into routine of going to the gym. This year I’m going to focus on going consistently 3-4 times per week, but not necessarily everyday back to back, that way I don’t get burnt out and also so it can fit into my daily schedule easier. A quick workout is better than no workout out all!
Treat Myself
Believe it or not, sometimes I have to remind myself that it’s okay to treat myself! When I’m needing extra motivation to get back into a gym and workout routine, treating myself to new workout clothes or shoes always does the trick. I just got these Adidas Adizero Adios running shoes and it’s just what I need to get me motivated to get back into the gym after the holidays. These new shoes will also motivate me to add a few evening walks around the neighborhood, despite the colder weather we’ve been having!
Establish Boundaries with Work Hours
When you’re self employed and work from home, it can be extremely hard to stick to a set schedule of working hours – it doesn’t exist! I have a habit of always being connected and feeling the need to respond to emails in a timely manner at all hours of the day. For the most part, my business is ran from my computer and my phone, so I’m rarely disconnected.
This year I’m going to put extra effort towards totally unplugging from work after normal business hours. That’s easier said than done when you truly love what you do, which is the case for me! I can never scroll through social media or browse the internet without it leading up to me doing some sort of unplanned blog related work, but I’m really going to try to draw the line here.
Spend More Time with Those I Care About
I cherish my time spent with friends and family and always wish it could be more. This year, my goal is to take initiative when it comes to making plans to make this happen! That means realistically, I need to start by making more free time in my schedule!
Eat Healthier
My diet could be a lot better, if I’m being honest. One of Chris and my favorite guilty pleasures is going out to eat on the weekend. I usually treat those meals as a free for all cheat meal, which really shouldn’t always be the case. I need to work on this and the new year seems like the perfect time to start. Splitting meals for smaller portions and substituting for healthier options are just a few ways to make this goal attainable.

I love that your treat yo self goal isn’t food related! All too often people set their rewards as food which then makes the guilt trip happen. I have my clients create a nourishment or adventure menu when to reward themselves – they love it and find it’s more motivating to hit their goals this way 🙂

These are really great goals. The one about setting work hours resonated with me. As a new blogger, I’m on my phone and laptop all the time. I’ll definitely be setting better boundaries.

These are all such great resolutions! I’m going to steal a few. I think it’s imprtant to have goals to work towards but they should be attainable.

Okay, these are definitely very realistic goals. Almost each of these are a reflection of my goals for the new year.

This is a great list. I’m the same way, I try to go ALL in and get burned out so easily. I’m going to adapt your resolution of 3-4 times per week.

Realistic goals are so important! I need know I will be able to achieve it. If not I get all frustrated and then I just want that goal behind.
