This post on how to make your new year resolutions a reality this fall is sponsored by adidas. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
We’re well past the second half of the year mark, and it’s hard for me to believe half of 2018 has already flown by! Anyone else!? With all the fall festivities and the holiday season quickly approaching, summer coming to an end, and kids going back to school, we’ve all got a lot on our plates this time of year. Life always tends to get busier in the fall, but in my opinion, it’s the best time to hit reset and get back in the swing of things.
Remember those New Year resolutions you made in January? Yea me neither! Kidding!! Some of y’all are rockstars and set your goals and stick to them (teach me your ways, please!), and some of y’all are like me and have gotten thrown off routine for a bit, but that’s totally okay – life happens, and it happens to all of us! It’s never too late to circle back to your New Year resolutions, and there’s no better time than now to do so!
I’ve rounded up some of my favorite tips for getting back on track and making those New Year resolutions a reality. Everyone’s got their own way of doing things, but this is what has worked best for me, and hopefully can help inspire you too!
HOW TO MAKE YOUR NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS A REALITY THIS FALL
Re-list Your Goals
Let the mid-year mark be the perfect time for you to circle back to those resolutions you set at the beginning of the year! Go through your list and sort out the things you’ve already accomplished, and then create a new list of your remaining goals. Doing so will give you a better perspective of what you’ve already accomplished and what you still need to focus on.
Treat Yourself
Sometimes you just need to treat yourself to get an extra boost of motivation. This is definitely how I work when it comes to finding motivation to workout! When I’m feeling like I’m in a funk, there’s nothing a new pair of running shoes or a new workout tank top can’t fix! I’ve been digging these Adidas Superstars lately, so bonus points for getting to treat myself and get healthy again!
Make it a Habit
When you view your goals and resolutions as a habit or lifestyle change, it’s easier to get them done! This couldn’t be more true for resolutions like going to the gym to workout! When you make it a habit, you’ll get used to going workout often as opposed to just popping in when it’s convenient for you!
Find an Accountability Partner
A workout buddy quickly comes to mind when I think of an accountability partner, but actually, this can be anyone working towards a goal! You don’t need to have the same goals to hold each other accountable! An accountability partner that you can check in with weekly and discuss each other’s accomplishments with will help anyone stay on track to make those resolutions a reality.
Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff
Don’t let minor roadblocks set you back from achieving your goals! Instead, focus on what you’ve already achieved and how you can do better going forward. Progress is not always perfect!
Take Things One Step at a Time
When you look at the big picture as a whole, your goals and dreams can cause unwanted stress and anxiety. It may feel overwhelming and impossible at times, but if you take it one step at a time, you’ll be on the path to success in no time!

I don’t even remember the resolutions I made in the beginning of the year either! HAHAHA! I LOVE the idea of using that reset in September once everyone is back in school and a routine is set. I just recently started using an accountability partner and we do weekly Facetimes to check in. I’m going to do as you suggest and re visit ( or make new) goals for now that I can attain for the rest of the year! Great post!

These are great suggestions! I’ve definitely noticed that I haven’t kept some of my New Year’s goals, and I really want to at least start on them before the year is over!

I love your white Adidas sneaker. I remember having my first pair and it matches all my clothes.

It’s ironic that I was just thinking about this the other day and contemplating turning it into a post. I have been in the practice for a few years of choosing a word or phrase for the year, and this year’s phrase was “change and growth.” I realized it certainly HAS been a year of change and growth, and not always in a comfortable way. I like your tips and may just refer to you and this blog post, if you don’t mind, as inspiration for writing my own similar post about looking back at resolutions and making them a reality before the year ends.

Thanks for this! I just came to the realisation last week that we only have a few months left before the year is out and one of my goals was to graduate uni. Not happening because my teachers aren’t working with me but I can definitely finish writing my thesis without them.

Great tips! I still feel so far away from those New Years goals… but good to know it’s not too late!

Great tips. Taking things one step a time is something important to remember. It’s super easy to get overwhelmed and rush.

Love this post. It’s so easy to loose track of your resolutions by the end of the year. Great way to make yourself accountable for achieving them.
