Sometimes it seems impossible to overcome the afternoon slump, but when you have a huge to-do list waiting for you to tackle, you’ve got to get past it and get things done! While I absolutely LOVE coffee, I can’t drink caffeine everyday, so I’ve had to find other ways to recharge my day.
Days when I have long 2-hour workouts (usually a cardio class + weights/cardio with a trainer) are when I feel the crash the most, and since coffee can’t always be my go-to, it’s important for me to figure out ways around the slump so I can still get my work done. I’ve rounded up my 5 go-to ways to recharge the day below. The next time you need an afternoon pick me up, give one (or all) of these a try!
5 Ways to Recharge Your Day
Find a Change of Scenery
If you have any bit of flexibility in your work day, I highly recommend a change of scenery! If you’re able to work remotely, this can mean taking your laptop and working outside, or going to a local coffee shop for a different environment. If you work in an office and have a cool boss, or better yet, you are the boss, perhaps you could schedule the next meeting outside! The smallest change makes all the difference. Bonus points for a chance to get some fresh air!
Treat Yourself
Did you get a large chunk of your to-do list done? Did you just meet that deadline you’ve been working on? Or maybe you just got a whole lot more work added to your plate. All are valid reasons to to treat yourself! A mid-day trip to RaceTrac is the perfect way to spend a short break because they’ve got all the goodies you may need!
If you need a caffeine fix, check out the “Crazy Good Coffee” bar for a variety of fresh brewed coffee blends, including 100% hazelnut, Columbian, Guatemalan, decaf, and dark roast options. If you’re hungry, you can grab some pizza, or a delicious Roller Grill item and pair it with your favorite fountain drink of any size for just $1 (now until Labor Day)! If your sweet tooth is calling, the Swirl World frozen yogurt and do-it-yourself topping bar would certainly hit the spot! Be sure to download the RaceTrac app to take advantage of the summer-long Wintastic Rewards Program for your 1-in-3 chance to win every time you make a qualifying purchase! It’s as easy as 1. Purchase! 2. Scan! 3. Win! Just scan the barcode on the app at checkout and see if you’re a winner. May the odds be ever in your favor!
Exercise During Breaks
While it may seem counterproductive, exercising when you’re feeling tired can actually wake you up! Just because it’s exercise, it doesn’t have to be anything extreme! You’d be surprised what a quick short walk, preferably outside for a breath of fresh air, could do! If it’s a rainy day, hit the stairs for a few rounds. This is a great way to unplug for a moment and clear your mind.
Take Advantage of Aromatherapy
I swear by essential oils – y’all know this! One of my all time favorite ways to wake up, get my mind going, and get productive is through aromatherapy! Diffusing uplifting oils like peppermint (my favorite) and orange can instantly uplift your mood and give your mind a recharge. If you’re unable to diffuse oils, you can always do the hand trick! Pour a drop of oil into the palms of your hands, rub your hands together, then inhale! Essential oils work in a matter of seconds, so this is a quick way to recharge.
Create an Uplifting Playlist
Find that one song that gets you lit and add it to your workflow playlist! You know the one – that no matter what you’re doing, you have to get up and dance! In fact, while you’re at it, why not have a mini dance party!? This will for sure recharge your day. Now that’s my kind of pick me up!

These are some super great ways to reenergize during the day! I especially like the aromatherapy suggestion. I have a hodgepodge of oils just sitting around here and there that I diffuse in different parts of the house. I don’t know that I always believed that they really helped, but I’ve started to change my mind on that! And also, a change of scenery? Oh yes, we all need that from time to time! Great post!

Is it awful that coffee is my go-to? I think I need to find more productive ways to recharge myself. 110% yes to listening to upbeat music. This almost always does it for me. Zumba kind of does for me, because it’s fun music and movement.
