I’ve been spending a lot of time working out lately. I decided to do the same 8-week training program that I did before my wedding that I had previously told y’all about, and with that came a commitment of 2-hour workouts, 6 days a week. Two hours a day is a lot when you still have a job to do, but thankfully being self-employed gives me flexibility in the mornings and the ability to make up for my missed working hours later in the evening or at night (for the most part).
Since taking two hours of out my normal working hours to get my workout in means I’m working two hours later in the day, I don’t have much free time for anything extra. I usually have a lot of errands to run every week, which mostly consists of grabbing products for upcoming blog posts, so I usually look like a hot mess after my workout in gym clothes while doing so! It’s much quicker for me to run those errands while I’m already out, because once I’m home, I’m usually in for the day and in work mode, so I choose to do this right after the gym.
I don’t want to completely scare people while I’m out in public, so I do try to tidy up some after the gym! Thankfully I’ve nailed down a quick routine to do so, and today I’m sharing how to tidy up after the gym with y’all. My routine certainly doesn’t take the place of a nice hot or cold shower, but it will definitely make you look and feel better if you have to run some quick errands right after your workout!
HOW TO TIDY UP AFTER THE GYM: THE ESSENTIALS
Change of Clothes
First things first, I always carry a change of clothes! I may not always use them depending on how sweaty I get, but they’re always in my bag if I need them. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy either. A second set of workout clothes will do for running errands after the gym.
Makeup Remover Towelettes
When I’m done working out, I like to head straight to the locker room to freshen up my face. I don’t know about you, but I do wear a little bit of makeup to the gym. Foundation and waterproof mascara are a must for me. I’ve been using Neutrogena™ Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes for years and they have never let me down. This is my holy grail! These makeup remover towelettes are a godsend for removing stubborn makeup like waterproof mascara and they cleanse without leaving residue. The best part of it all is that there’s no need to rinse. They’re quick and easy! You can find them in the skincare aisle at Walmart. I use these ultra soft makeup remover towelettes to take off all of my sweaty messed up makeup, and then give myself a quick and minimal fresh application of foundation and mascara before heading out.
Dry Shampoo
This is my second holy grail, y’all! Nobody wants smelly hair, even if it is tied up in a pony! I always keep a can of dry shampoo in my gym bag for a quick refresh. It gives my hair a nice smell and also makes it look fresh and clean again. Dry shampoo is such a blessing when you don’t have time to wash your hair.
Spray Deodorant
Something about the thought of reapplying a deodorant stick to sweaty and smelly armpits makes me cringe, so I prefer to use a spray deodorant instead! I keep this in my gym bag and it’s so convenient. I can just spray it on for a quick refresh and the germaphobe in me doesn’t have to think about the nasty that would otherwise be going onto a traditional deodorant stick!
Absorbent Hair Drying Towel
Have you seen those special absorbent hair drying towels? These are a godsend if your hair gets super wet and sweaty after working out! They’re usually made with a special type of material that absorbs moisture more quickly and effectively than regular towels. I like to keep one of these in my gym bag just in case and use it to dry my hair prior to spraying any dry shampoo!
Water + Snacks
Immediately after working out, I begin replenishing my body of the water I just lost after a major sweat sesh. I always carry extra water with me in addition to a large refillable water bottle filled with tons of ice. This not only keeps me hydrated but helps me cool down quickly too. I never forget a healthy snack either! You never know when you might need a snack after a big calorie burn, especially if you’re running on a big calorie deficit for the day.
