When it’s the middle of summer, it can be a bit of a challenge to get outside and enjoy the outdoors when the temperatures continue to rise. Indoors and air condition are always more desirable, am I right!?
Understandably so, it can be hard to keep your dog active in the summer because of the heat, but I’m here to tell you how you can change that! These 5 ways to keep your dog active this summer will give your dog the exercise they crave and the movement they need without being miserable in the heat.
So the next time you’re stuck inside because it feels like an actual oven outside, consider one of these activities that will keep your dog’s mind and body active!
WAYS TO KEEP YOUR DOG ACTIVE THIS SUMMER:
1. CREATE AN INDOOR SCAVENGER HUNT
When it’s too hot to go outside to play fetch, your dog can still have fun indoors! All dogs love food scavenger hunts, and it’s actually a great way to get your dog off the couch!
By placing a trail of food throughout the house, they’ll be entertained for a while as they eat their way through the trail! Just be sure to do so with the right kind of food- something that will provide nutritional benefits.
If you want to keep your dog healthy and active this summer, try Wellness® CORE® RawRev™, a high protein, grain-free kibble food that allows you to incorporate raw food easily and safely into every meal.
2. FIND A DOG FRIENDLY POOL
Y’all, this is so awesome! Did you know there are indoor pools and aqua fitness centers that exist just for dogs!? It’s true! Check out this dog aquatic center in Chicago for example- they know what’s up! I think this is the coolest thing!
Unfortunately I couldn’t find any close to my area, but a quick Google search may turn up luckier for you!
3. CLIMB THE STAIRS
If you have stairs and a dog with lots of energy, then you’re in luck! Instead of going outside for a walk or run on a hot day, you can always get some cardio in by climbing the stairs with your pet! This is a great way to let your dog release some energy when summer cabin fever starts to set in!
4. IT’S ALL IN THE DIET
This may not necessarily be an activity, but since a dog’s health, like humans, is rooted from their diet, I felt the need to point out that feeding the right food is key to staying active.
Wellness® CORE® RawRev™ is a great way to give your dog balanced nutrition while safely incorporating 100% raw meat pieces into a dry kibble. It’s similar to a raw food diet, only safer, more convenient, and much easier! It’s a high protein food to support whole-body health, longevity, lean body mass, and muscle tone. 5. KEEP NEW TOYS WITHIN REACH TO ENCOURAGE PLAYTIME
If your dog is anything like mine, then napping inside during the day is on the top of your dog’s list of favorite things to do! A great way to get your dog up and moving is to encourage play time. New toys usually do the trick! This gets them excited and makes them want to play, which is a great way to trick them into being active when they’d rather be lazy!

We have dog flu going around our city so the dog parks are empty. Just started our dog’s vaccines, but it’ll still be another 3 weeks before he can be social again. 🙁

The summer can be especially harsh on our pets because of the warm weather. I think it’s really important that we still keep them active though, and these are great tips on how to do just that!

So cute! My two dogs are my world. We go on daily walks, they play with each other constantly in the backyard, they get treats, peanut butter kongs, stuffed animals…they pretty much live the best life possible I think. lol.
