Summer is in full swing and it’s the perfect time to go on a date with your loved one! If you’re looking for fun and inexpensive summer date ideas, look no further because I’ve got you covered!
I’m sharing a list of 10 inexpensive summer date ideas that Chris and I personally enjoy. We’re always looking for free or inexpensive ways to spend time together and these are some of our favorites!
10 INEXPENSIVE SUMMER DATE IDEAS:
1. Go on a Nature Walk
Although the heat is usually unbearable in the summer down here in south Louisiana, we still love spending time outdoors in the fresh air. If you’re like us and don’t live near mountains with hiking trails, nature walks are your next best thing! You can usually find nature trails in most state parks and they’re a great way to get some cardio in too!
2. Rent a Two Person Kayak
If you don’t already have one, you can always rent a two person kayak and spend the day out on the lake!
3. Frozen Yogurt & Movie Night
One of our favorite summer treats is frozen yogurt, so Chris and I always turn our yogurt runs into a date night! Usually we’ll get ours to go and have a movie night, which is a great way to spend time together at home.
Right now at RaceTrac’s Swirl World, you can get an ice cream, Italian ice, or frozen yogurt cone for just .79 cents! Yes, you heard that right, but you better hurry because that steal of a deal only lasts through July! Even at regular price, you still can’t beat the value Swirl World has to offer, from froyo cones to cups with all the toppings!
There’s also still time to enter to win a $300 RaceTrac gift card- aka, a year supply of Swirl World!! All you have to do is share how you Swirl World by tagging your pictures on Instagram or Twitter w/ #HowYouSwirlWorld and tagging me, IG: @thesouthernthing / Twitter: @thesouthrnthing to let me know you entered!
4. Go to a Sporting Event
If you or your significant other likes sports, why not turn a sports outing into an inexpensive summer date!? Baseball games are always happening during the summer, and depending on what city you’re in, you may be able to find tickets for as low as $10-$20, or go on a special promo night when food is free or super cheap!
5. Go to the Zoo
The zoo is always a fun place and you can literally turn a zoo outing into an entire day! Just the orangutan habitat alone can provide hours of entertainment!
6. Go on a Wine Tour & Tasting
If you have a vineyard nearby, lucky you! This is hands down one of my favorite inexpensive summer date ideas! You can go on a tour and have a wine tasting for as little as $10, and on top of that, most places encourage you to bring your own food and snacks for a picnic. Plus, some wineries even have summer concert nights! You don’t have to ask me twice!
Sidenote* If you’re in Louisiana, I recommend Landry’s Vineyards!
7. Be a Tourist in Your Own City
This never gets old! Even if you’ve lived in the same city your entire life, I bet you haven’t experienced everything your home town has to offer! There’s always something to discover, new or old, so get out there and see what you can find!
8. Attend an Outdoor Concert
Summers are for outdoor concerts and festivals! From big headliner music festivals to small local outdoor concert series, there’s a lot to do at all price ranges, with many even being free!
9. Go Tubing
A lot of people go tubing with large groups of friends, but going with just the two of you can make for a fun and cheap summer date! Rent a floating ice chest, bring lots of tasty drinks, and float the evening away down the river!
10. Backyard Picnic / Campfire
You don’t even have to leave your house to have a cheap summer date. Let your backyard be your campground by having a day time picnic! For a day time picnic, a French inspired wine and cheese board is never a bad idea! I suggest this French wine paired with any of these French cheeses!
You can also turn your backyard into a campground at night by having a bonfire and roasting s’mores! That sounds delicious just thinking about it!

I love frozen yogurt! It’s so hot in the summer here (Houston, it’s in the upper 90s) so most outdoor options are out for us. We may try some of these in the fall.
