This New Orleans summer bucket list post in sponsored by RaceTrac. All opinions are my own.
Although it may not technically be summer yet, since it’s May I think it’s pretty safe to say summer is in full swing! After all, it already feels like it’s 100 degrees out, so what’s the wait!?
Summer means there’s lots of fun to be had, especially in the south and around New Orleans! Since there’s always something going on in NOLA, it’s easy to get sidetracked and it’s hard to choose what to do, so I’ve put together a New Orleans summer bucket list to make the decision a bit easier.
If you’re from the area or will be visiting New Orleans soon, I give you full permission to steal this New Orleans summer bucket list and consider it your own- you won’t want to miss out on these events and activities!
NEW ORLEANS SUMMER BUCKET LIST:
GET A SNOBALL FROM HANSEN’S
To kick off summer in the south, you must start with your first snoball of the season! To my local friends reading, y’all know what’s up! For anyone planning to visit and try their first snoball, here’s my pro tip: order a chocolate with condensed milk- you can’t go wrong! For a special Nola exclusive, try to get your hands on a bananas foster snoball at Hansen’s!
VISIT THE AUDUBON ZOO
There’s a wide variety of fun to be had at the Audubon Zoo, regardless of age! For a special Louisiana experience, try to catch a scheduled alligator feeding! I can’t think of many zoos that have a water park/lazy river, but New Orleans knows what’s up and has got you covered there, so don’t forget to cool off after touring the grounds!
SODAPALOOZA ROADTRIP
It wouldn’t be summer without a road trip, and thankfully the beautiful beaches of Florida are just a short drive away from New Orleans. Just in time for summer, Sodapalooza is back at RaceTrac and I can’t think of a better pit stop! RaceTrac is ready to kick off another season of unlimited fountain and frozen drink refills all summer long until July 31. Head on over to any RaceTrac to grab your 2017 Sodapalooza cup (only $11.99, but if you download the RaceTrac rewards app, you can get a coupon for $2 off!) and experience endless ways to cool down in the summer heat. Each cup comes with exclusive coupons valued anywhere between $30-$150 in savings. For my south Louisiana friends, y’all are in luck because there’s a special Audubon Zoo coupon in the cups! I hear the cups are running out fast, so be sure to grab yours while you can! I’m excited to kick off a fun summer-long partnership with RaceTrac, so be on the lookout for more exciting specials to come!
LOUISIANA CAJUN ZYDECO FESTIVAL
For a true taste of Louisiana’s cajun roots, you must check out the Cajun Zydeco Fest (taking place June 24-25, 2017). Like all fests in New Orleans, this one is filled with music, food, and art, but best of all, it’s free!
WHITE LINEN NIGHT
Taking place in the heart of NOLA’s Arts District is White Linen Night, a block party featuring over 20 art galleries and museums open for strolling. In true New Orleans fashion, there’s no shortage of food, cocktails, and live entertainment. This year’s event takes place August 5th.
RED DRESS RUN
What do you get when you have thousands of women and men (yes I said men!) running around in red dresses? Well, you get the Red Dress Run and it’s something you won’t want to miss! The event is known as a drinking club with a running problem, and it’s not for those that can’t hang! Drinking starts at 9 am during registration, which is followed by a 3 mile run, and the party doesn’t end until usually night time somewhere on Bourbon Street. No need to worry though, it’s all for a good cause!
Are you from the Nola area? If so, tell me what’s on your New Orleans summer bucket list! For those not in the New Orleans area, what’s on your list this summer?

I worked for a Louisiana member of Congress but sadly never got done there! I did get immersed in the culture from DC though.
