This post on ways to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day is sponsored by McDonald’s. All opinions are my own.I look forward to St. Patrick’s Day almost as much as I look forward to Mardi Gras. I guess that’s because here in Louisiana, we find any reason to celebrate and throw a good party. This holiday is no different! When it comes to celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in Louisiana, it’s almost like an extension of Mardi Gras with all the parades, parties, and food. The St. Patty’s parades are full of decadent floats and beads just like Mardi Gras and there’s never a dull moment. St. Patrick’s Day is a holiday that’s always fun to celebrate, and if you’re planning to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, I have a few ideas that will help you get into the spirit!
WAYS TO CELEBRATE ST. PATRICK’S DAY:
Embrace Shamrock Season
That’s right, it’s officially Shamrock Season, meaning the famous Shamrock Shake from McDonald’s is back and there’s no tastier way to celebrate St. Patty’s day than with this green treat. This seasonal shake is available for only a limited time and is a mint lover’s dream! This year McDonald’s has introduced a brand new chocolaty mint flavor and it’s a must try! You have until March 21st to grab yours before they’re gone! Pro Tip #1: grab a spoon with your Shamrock shake and mix it together to taste the infusion of the chocolaty and mint flavors! Pro Tip #2: using the McDonald’s app, you can buy five and get 1 free (at participating McDonald’s for a limited time).
Wear Green
You don’t want to be the one that gets pinched, so make sure you have your green on! Anything from a green shirt, piece of jewelry, green nail polish, and even a green drink in hand counts! This can also be a fun excuse to throw a themed party with friends!
Donate to a Charity
Maybe parade going isn’t your thing but you still want to partake in the celebration. You can pay it forward by contributing to a good cause while you also treat yourself. For every purchase of a Shamrock Chocolate Madness Drink between 3/11 – 3/17, McDonald’s will make a donation to Ronald McDonald House Charities®.
Go to a Parade
If you’re looking for a good time with friends in celebration of all things green, hitting up a local parade wouldn’t be a bad idea! If you’re in the New Orleans area, there are several large St. Patrick’s Day and Irish-Italian parades. My personal favorite is the Irish-Italian, which is famous for their cabbage and vegetable food throws! Check out the parade schedule here. For all of my LSU people, Baton Rouge throws a fun St. Patty’s party too!
Take an Irish Dance Lesson
If you really want to get a feel for the Irish culture, take an Irish dance lesson! This would actually be a fun date idea for couples, so grab your partner and get your dancing shoes on!
Are you planning to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this year? How will you get into the spirit?

Slightly off-topic — my fiance and I are considering starting our honeymoon in New Orleans, LA – we’d be there the week of Thanksgiving – good time to visit or should we plan a visit another time?
