It’s hard to believe we’re already half way through January. 2017 didn’t start off as I had hoped, but I’m trying to look on the bright side and find peace through the circumstances. To fill y’all in, my family was recently faced with the loss of my uncle. He was very sick at the time of his passing, but he was one of the strongest men I knew and he refused to stop fighting, despite the many unfortunate circumstances he faced at such a young age. I’m trying to find comfort in knowing at least he’s no longer in pain. To say my world has been upside down these last few weeks would be an understatement, but I’m trying to find the silver lining.
I’m still scrambling to get on board with my new year’s goals and resolutions, but better late than never, right? We may be half way through the first month of the year, but there’s never a wrong time to start. Rather than mapping out all of my goals for the entire year, I’m choosing to break them down into monthly segments so they can be more realistic and achievable. Here’s what I hope to accomplish this month to help kickstart the rest of my year!
Get back into a regular workout routine
Between the busyness of the holidays, I somehow lost my groove and motivation to go to the gym everyday. My goal this month is to get back on track and do something active everyday.
Start counting calories again
I blame my lack of counting calories on the holidays too. I was doing so well logging everything I ate for months prior to Christmas, and then it all went out the window! It’s now time to get back on track with this one since keeping a food diary really helps put things in perspective! I also plan to start using my other favorite fitness apps more often too, since I’ve been slacking a lot in the fitness department lately.
Be more content
One thing I really want to work on this year is being more content. I second guess everything because I always feel I could be better, or there’s something better out there. This is a good and bad thing. It’s good because I always feel I can do better, which keeps me focused on growth and improvement, but at the same time it’s bad because it makes me a very indecisive person! There are times when even if I really like something, I can’t commit to it in fear that there might be a better option out there. Let me tell you, that feeling gets old quick!
Start the Q&A journal again
Last year, Chris and I started a daily Q&A journal. It’s a journal set up for 2 people to fill out daily, over a 3-year span. Towards the end of last year between our big move and all the wedding planning, we lost track of writing in the journal and now it’s been months of blank pages. Looking back, I feel we skipped some of the most exciting months of our lives with all the wedding festivities, but it is what it is! Now that things have slowed down, I’m going to make an extra effort to not forget about this fun little book. I also have the Q&A a Day 5-year journal for 1 person that I will be using daily. I highly recommend both!
Be more personal on the blog
One of my biggest goals for blogging this year is to be more personal again and share a look inside what’s going on in my life. This was so easy to do several years ago when I first started this blog and was living in a new place with many new experiences to document. Now that I’m back in my home state, a lot of life happenings are either repetitive or I haven’t felt the need to document them because they’re “normal” to me. I do have some very exciting things coming up this year (more news on that later, eek!) and a lot to still document from last year (ahem, wedding and honeymoon) so stay tuned!
I hope your 2017 is off to a great start! What are you working towards this month?

I am currently writing a post about ALL my 2017 goals but I started my healthy goals today! I am going to hit the gym 4 times a week, drink 80 ounces of water a day and eat clean with only 2 splurges a week!

I too vowed to be more personal on my blog this year! It’s hard to open up in blog posts about personal things but it feels good to do so! Good luck with your goals!

I have both of those journals as well! I wasn’t great about filling them out last year because I didn’t live with Paul, but I should get him to write with me again now that we live together. I blame the holidays for everything, too. I think it’s totally legit.

I can’t believe we’re already halfway through the month either – wow! Calorie counting is something I need to get back on too. I’ve been slacking so badly!

Omg, I have the q and a journal too! Thanks for reminding me that I have to write on it. I haven’t written in days. I’m content but I’m still struggling on keeping myself from comparing my life to others. Sometimes it’s kinda hard.
