We’ve all had one of those days. You sleep through your alarm, wake up 30 minutes late, run to your laundry room and realize you forgot to put your wet work clothes in the dryer, by luck find something to wear, get in the car but spill coffee on your one clean shirt while getting in, then get stuck in traffic 10 minutes later causing even more of a delay. It’s safe to say nobody likes to start their day like that, but sometimes those days are unavoidable. While we may not be able to avoid having the worst morning ever, it is possible to turn that bad day upside down! The next time you’re having one of those days, try one of these 5 ways to reverse a bad day!
Play your favorite playlist
I like to always be prepared with several playlists on my phone for any occasion. You never know when you may need it. If you’re having the worst morning ever, you can easily turn that frown upside down with a cheerful playlist! It will take the edge off of being stuck in morning traffic and can quickly uplift your mood. Sometimes a blast from the past is all it takes to reverse a bad day. Old school Back Street Boys for the win!
Pay it forward
There’s no better feeling than the feeling of paying it forward, especially when you know you can make someone else’s day by doing so. If you’re day is off to a bad start, go the extra mile to make someone’s day a little brighter. It can be something simple like stopping at RaceTrac for gas and buying coffee and donuts for the person in line behind you. Coffee and donuts always brings joy! Treat yourself
Sometimes it’s more than necessary to treat yourself– emphasis on treat! Already running late? Might as well make a quick pitstop for some feel good food! Ever since I saw self serve froyo at Swirl World in my nearby RaceTrac, I knew we would be best friends! That always does the trick for me. Don’t be afraid to get selfish either! A little pampering does the mind and body good. Sometimes all it takes is 15 minutes of retail therapy, other times you may need a full on spa day. Do what works best for you and don’t think twice about it, you deserve it!
Take a moment to remove yourself from the environment
A little break with some fresh air goes a long way! If you’re having a bad day, step out of the stressful environment and just breath. Fresh air, fresh start! If you have essential oils, even better. I’m a big believer in aromatherapy!
Look past it
Some days we’ll feel defeated and no matter what you do, you just can’t reverse a bad day. If that’s the case, do your best to look past it. After all, that bad day is only one day out of the year. Focus on how to make tomorrow better instead!

I heard a trick that every night before you go to bed you should write down ONE thing you were grateful for. Even on the worst days. It is amazing to go back and look at that list. Plus, it puts you in a better mood at night 🙂

These are such good tips! I had a day from Hell last week which included my car battery dying and after crying being genuinely nice to the AAA guy and having a pleasant conversation with him I felt better. It didn’t help that a million other things went wrong that day but it did help bring my mind in a different direction. I also did treat myself with McDonalds fries because these days deserve that. HAHA thanks for the great post!

Have you noticed that once your bad day has started, things just keep happening? It’s like it snowballs… that’s because attitude is everything. So now I try hard to change my mindset and laugh off when irritating things happen 🙂

Hi, Dara. I’m always needing more tips to switch from bad mood to awesomeness.
Music is one way I turn a day around. I can either choose to feed the beast by turning on music that feeds the negative OR I can choose to turn something on that lights up my soul.
I like to choose the latter, but sometimes feeding the beast wins out. It’s kind of a selfish thing on my part. Sometimes I just want to be in a bad mood!
Sleeping always works for me. Sometimes I just need to check out of life and catching some zzzz’s does the trick.
I stumbled this as I want to be reminded of these options.
Enjoy your day,

Sometimes it’s hard to look past the bad day when all you want to do is stew or complain about how crap your life is. This list is a good reminder that we can do something to change our perspective.

Looking past it is definitely the best way to reverse a bad day. There is no sense in dwelling on it and having it effect the next day. Live, learn, and let go.
