If you want a city that never sleeps, will welcome you with open arms, has the best food in the country (I may be biased, but most would agree!), is filled with culture and history, and knows how to throw a good party, New Orleans is the place for you! Down in Nola, we may talk too much, laugh too loud, and live too large, but once you leave you’ll realize how quickly it stole your heart! It’s one of the most unique cities I’ve ever seen and growing up just a short ride away, I’m proud to call it my second home.
I love New Orleans and jump at every chance I get to convince someone to come visit. Today I’m sharing some fun things to do in New Orleans and a look inside New Orleans living to give y’all an idea of what life is like down in the Big Easy! Come see for yourself, would ya!?
WHERE TO LIVE
New Orleans offers a variety of living options, from unique and classic shotgun style homes, to upscale luxury condos in the heart of the city. One of the newest centrally located places to live in Downtown New Orleans and a great option in my opinion is 1201 Canal luxury condos. With prices ranging from $219,900 to $1,153,900 at 1201 Canal, you’ll get a true urban living experience inside a fully renovated historic department store, with top notch hotel style amenities, such as valet parking, a rooftop pool and spa. It’s right on the streetcar line, so you’ll have instant access to endless bars, restaurants and entertainment. This is the perfect place for young professionals and families seeking a downtown address and a piece of history to call their own.
WHERE TO EAT
Living in New Orleans gives you easy access to hundreds of dining options, all within walking distance or a short streetcar or car ride. You almost can’t go wrong with any of the food options, but a good place to start is The Ruby Slipper for brunch, Acme Oyster House for world famous chargrilled oysters, and GW Fins for a fine dining experience with some of the most pristine seafood in town.
WHERE TO DRINK
There are some many things to do in New Orleans! One thing there definitely isn’t a short of is bars! If you like to hit up happy hour or enjoy a night out on the town with friends, welcome to the city where the bars rarely close! Classics such as the Carousel Bar in Hotel Monteleone, The Sazerac Bar at The Roosevelt, and Pat O’s in the heart of the French Quarter are staples to the city, and all within a short walking distance!
WHERE TO SHOP
Living in downtown New Orleans means you have easy access to some of the best shopping in the city. Close by is Saks Fifth Avenue for high-end designer pieces and the newly revamped Riverwalk, which offers a collection of upscale outlets.
WHERE TO PLAY
From a centrally located downtown New Orleans starting point, you are close to many entertainment options! If you’re in the mood to test your luck, Harrah’s Casino could make for a fun and interesting night. If you’re more of the show type, the Saenger Theater often has broadway performances worth seeing. There’s always something going on at House of Blues, so if you like the music scene, this place is for you!
As you can see, New Orleans is a place for those that like to live large and live life to the fullest. There’s never a dull moment here and it has something to offer for everyone! Have you been to Nola? Will you be planning a visit or permanent stay? Be sure to pin this list of things to do in New Orleans for your next trip!

Great post! I’ve been to New Orleans several times – but both times were for work and I just didn’t have enough time to actually explore. I would love to go for fun – what would you recommend for a hotel? I’d love to find a cool place in the French Quarter that’s not a chain and has some personality! 🙂
