This past Sunday was our seven year dating anniversary so Chris and I headed to the French Quarter to celebrate! This anniversary was also very special to us due to the fact that it was our last since we’ll have a new anniversary date come November 12 when we get married! My vote is to celebrate both, but Chris disagrees. We’ll see who wins that battle next year!
Since I had the crazy but awesome idea to join a weight loss challenge at my gym, which began on Sunday, we decided to have our anniversary celebration on Saturday instead. We started the evening with dinner at Bourbon House followed by walking around the Quarter. As with all nights in New Orleans, this one didn’t disappoint!
We had a few minutes to spare before our dinner reservation at Bourbon House, located right on Bourbon Street, so we walked a few blocks for some people watching, which is never a dull moment down there regardless of what time or day it is! Right before we turned around to head back towards the restaurant, I made a new friend. Say hi!
By the time we got back to the restaurant, we were basically dripping wet in sweat. Lovely I know. The Louisiana heat and humidity don’t play around! You’d think after living here for just about our entire lives we’d be used to it, but no.
They say when you’re hot and sweaty in New Orleans, the best way to cool down is with a cold drink, so I didn’t hesitate to take that advice! I opted for the frozen bourbon milk punch, since after all we were at the Bourbon House! If that drink ins’t dessert in a cup then I don’t know what is! Holy yum!
I’d be lying if I said the crab fingers bordelaise weren’t the reason we decided to eat there in the first place! Any guesses as to what I ordered first!? I’ll give you a hint…
Apparently I was on a crab kick that night because I also ordered a seared crab cake as my entree. You really can’t go wrong with any seafood dish down in New Orleans, but this one knocked it out the park. I’ll be back for seconds!
Before the night was over, Chris did what Chris always does best: he surprised me and completely caught me off guard! I was told to close my eyes and hold out my hands. If we weren’t already engaged, I would’ve thought something was up, but this time I was just confused. I opened my eyes seconds later to discover this beautiful ring on my finger!
Y’all, I had been wanting this ring for years and was looking at it online last week. Well, Chris went snooping through my phone one night while I was asleep to see what type of stuff I had been shopping for lately . He was hoping to find something I had been online window shopping for (which I always do) apparently he stumbled upon the ring! I’m impressed with his detective skills to say the least. It was a sweet surprise!
The rest of the night after dinner was spent strolling through the Quarter. We made a pit stop for pralines, then scoped out our rehearsal dinner spot and wedding venue, and on the way back to the car, we somehow ended up in a second line! It felt like a mini preview of our wedding to come! It was the perfect way to end an anniversary if you ask me!
Happy 7 years, my love. I can’t wait for many more!
