Eating clean while on the go is always a challenge. Busy schedules, being pressed for time, and limited resources while you’re out and about certainly don’t help, but with a little extra effort, it is possible to eat clean on the go and today I’m going to share how! I’ve also created a free printable and there’s a Pure Protein Plus Bars giveaway, so be sure to check it out! Everyone has their way of doing things, and this is what I’ve found to work best for me, so I hope these tips can help you too!
1. Research the area before you leave
When I’m on the go, I always like to start the day by researching the area. A quick search online will help you scope out the area and see what types of restaurants, juice, and smoothie bars are in the area. I find it’s best to try to browse a few menus that way you’ll have some lunch, dinner, and snack options in your head for when the time comes.
2. Request a light menu + substitutions when dining out
When eating out, always ask your server for the light menu if eating clean is your priority. Most restaurants these days have a light menu option with better for you meals around 500 calories. Don’t be afraid to ask for substitutions either! If you see a meal on the regular menu you’d like, but you don’t want the french fries that come as the side item, many places will let you substitute for something more guilt free, like steamed vegetables or salad.
3. Stay in a place with a kitchen
If you’re going to be traveling but still want to eat clean on the go, make it a priority to book a place with a kitchen, or at the very least, a hotel with a mini fridge. Anytime you have the option to cook your own meal, it’s going to be the better option than eating out.
4. Make your own coffee
If you know you’re a person that can’t function without your daily cup of coffee, plan ahead and make your own coffee instead of ordering to go at the nearest coffee shop. By making your own coffee, you can easily save yourself over 100 calories for the day. You’ll also be saving money too, and who doesn’t like to do that!?
5. Pack snacks
One of the easiest ways to eat clean on the go is to pack snacks that meet your ideal version of clean that you can keep in your purse. If you’re going to be out for a while, you may want to skip foods that need refrigeration and opt for nuts, dried fruit, and protein bars instead. Protein bars (enter to win the sweepstakes below to try my current favorites) are always a great option since they’ll keep you full between meals and will help you snack less.I recently tried the new Pure Protein Plus Bars and now they go everywhere with me while on the go. With a variety of flavors like cookies and cream, apple pie, mocha brownie, and chocolate chip cookie dough, I never get bored! You can find these Pure Protein Plus Bars at Walmart, and be sure to use Ibotta to earn $1.50 back.
Pure Protein Plus Bars are a high protein (20 grams) and high fiber (15 grams) snack that keep me full and prevent snacking between meals, which is so important for me to maintain my goals and stay within my daily caloric limit. They’re also low in sugar and don’t have any artificial sweeteners, which is always a plus. Next time you’re in Walmart, grab a box and give them a try!

Thanks for sharing! I think it’s tough to eat healthy food while on the go. I have two kids, and I have a hard time getting them to eat the good stuff. But NO EXCUSES!

Not sure about the ingredients in these but be sure to look for Soy products, artificial sweeteners, too much sweetener and more than 6-10 ingredients. These are the bars you want to avoid.

We always try to stay in places with kitchens (love home away!). We get to eat healthier and save money too.

We often share plates of good, healthy simple foods when we are out and about. It is a bit of work to think healthy while on the go, but it can be done.

Love this! I try to implement this for the days I’m at work all day so I don’t make bad decisions and eat out everyday.

I travel a great deal and avoiding the temptations are hard. I’m a huge TexMex fan and will opt for that quickly. However, I know it’s not the most healthy option. You’ve shared great tips to help stay on track.

Great tips! As a travel blogger who is constantly on the road, keeping a decent diet is one of the harder daily goals to keep to. I’m not big on protein bars, but these look pretty tasty, I’ll have to try them out!

I like to always pack my own snacks when I’m on the go! That way I’m not tempted to stop somewhere along the way and get whatever my stomach is craving. Excellent tips. Thanks for sharing!
