I’ve been more conscious about what I eat, but I’d be lying if I said I could completely give up my guilty pleasures! Chocolate and sweets are my weakness, so to keep myself sane, I have to reward myself every now and then. With that being said, when I do let my sweet cravings win the battle, I make sure it’s the better option. For example, I’ll grab froyo over ice-cream, or a 100 calorie snack vs a 300+ calorie snack.
Recently I had a craving for a java chip frappuccino, which is loaded with calories, so I decided to put my own spin on the frappe and see what I could come up with using ingredients I already had in the kitchen. That’s when the Belgian dark chocolate espresso froyo was born! It may not be a blended frappe, but it gave me the same cold, chocolaty coffee taste I was craving, so it was a win in my book!
Ingredients for dark chocolate espresso froyo:
– Vanilla frozen yogurt
– Espresso coffee (K-cup for convenience)
– Skinnygirl Belgian dark chocolate bar (only 100 calories)
What You Do:
Step 1. The first thing you’ll need to do is brew your espresso. For convenience, I chose to use a Keurig espresso K-cup. Brew your espresso per instructions, then add ice and allow it to cool (this part is important since you’ll be topping your froyo with it and you don’t want it to melt).
Step 2. Since we’re all about cutting calories here, you’ll want to opt for a low-calorie chocolate bar for topping. Skinnygirl Belgian dark chocolate bars are a great 100 calorie option. Finely slice the Belgian dark chocolate into thin shavings.
Step 3. Once the espresso has cooled, scoop your froyo into a bowl, then top with 1 tablespoon of espresso. Garnish the dark chocolate espresso froyo with the chocolate shavings and serve with an additional Belgian dark chocolate bar for dipping (optional)!
The dark chocolate espresso froyo idea came about after a fun mail day when I received some awesome Skinnygirl products to try out. The box was full of Skinnygirl chocolate bars, K-cups, mints, water enhancers, and sparkling water made with 100% natural fruit juices. These are all products that let you have a healthier indulgent snack, which is right up my alley! They are created with high standards for ingredient quality, nutritional content and taste, which is also a plus.
I really like how the Skinnygirl Brand focuses on portion control, not diet, which is exactly what I try to do to keep myself from going crazy over cravings. To say these are my go-to would be an understatement. For days when I’m busy on the go, the 100 calorie Belgian chocolates sure do come in handy! You can find these in stores here!
What’s your favorite less-guilt dessert?
If this dark chocolate espresso froyo has you drooling, remember you can always pin it now and try it later!
