While summer is in full swing, there’s no better time than now to enjoy a day date outdoors! The possibilities are endless when it comes to summer day date ideas, but I’ve rounded up some of my favorite things to do in the summer, aside from the typical date night. If you’re looking to get outdoors but still enjoy something romantic this summer, grab your lover and give one of these summer day dates a go!
1. Go on a roadtrip
If there’s a nearby town you’ve never been to, but have always wanted to visit, this would be perfect to do as a couple!
2. Play tourist in your city
While visiting other places is nice, there’s so much to do in your own city that you might not even think of! Search through a travel site like Yelp or Trip Advisor and see what’s popular for tourists in your city and give it a try!
3. Visit a winery
Wine and cheese!? Yes, please! Wineries are beautiful and so romantic, so you really can’t go wrong with this one. Plus, who doesn’t love wine!?
4. Attend a festival
Spring and summer are usually filled with festivals, from large music fests, to local art and food street fests. You could easily turn one of these into a fun summer day date!
5. Try a cooking class
Since you always need a rain plan, this day date is is perfect for a rainy day! Instead of having date night at a restaurant, a fun way to change things up is to do the cooking yourself with the help of the experts! This is great for couples that want to learn something new and enjoy time together.
6. Go sailing
For a timeless and romantic summer day date idea, go sailing! I know you’re probably thinking this isn’t possible for everyone, because who all actually has a sailboat laying around, but hold up! If you live near water, a lot of towns actually have sailing charters that you can go on, so owning your own boat isn’t a requirement!
7. Go on a bike ride
Spend time with each other while also burning calories!? Sounds like a great plan to me! You could also lead a bike ride into another date idea like a picnic!
8. Attend a sporting event
Sorry football fans, this sport may be out of the question for the summer, but there’s still plenty of others out there! Even if you’re not big into a specific sport, attending the actual live event is still fun!
9. Go blueberry picking
Depending on where you live, different crops will be in harvest at different times. See what’s available in your area and set a day date to go! You could also end the day with a picnic!
10. Get ice cream
Once you’ve had enough of the summer heat, ice cream is a must! This is a great summer day date idea that can easily be incorporated into the rest of your plans for the day!
Speaking of ice cream, I partnered with my friends at Baskin-Robbins to give their new Warm Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich a try, because honestly, it looked too good to pass up! In fact, I ended up going back for seconds, so this time I took Chris along.
With all the wedding planning that’s been keeping us busy on the weekends, our ice cream day date ended up being a nice little break from all the crazy!
He’s going to kill me for posting this photo of him, but what the fiancé doesn’t know won’t hurt him!
Here’s a little secret about me- mint chocolate chip ice cream and warm chocolate chunk cookies are my weakness.
If you haven’t had warm cookies mixed with your favorite ice cream before, you’re missing out! It is heavenly! Head to your local Baskin-Robbins to give their warm cookie ice cream sandwich a try to see what I mean!

There were so many fab ideas here, thank you! Me and my boyfriend have found ourselves with a lot of spare time and a small budget this summer (being a recent graduate can be really tricky), so I’m definitely going to give some of these a whirl asap!

Love these ideas! Be a tourist in your own city is great I feel like it’s so easy to forget that we have tons to do at our fingertips – I live about 45 min out of SF so much to do there. We tend to stay in our suburbia area 🙂
