How are we already in July!? I know I say this every month, but time is going by way too quickly. If someone could give me a pause button right about now that would be fantastic. We’re getting closer and closer to my wedding month and I may just have a mini panic attack right about now. July 12 is the one year mark for Chris and I being engaged and that puts us at exactly a 14 month engagement once it’s all said and done. For those out there that have pulled off a 6 month engagement, props to you. I don’t know how you do it because it feels like it was just a few months ago that I got engaged and although all the big wedding stuff is just about planned, I still feel like there’s so much to do and not enough time to do it. Okay, let me take a breather before this post turns into a full blown wedding post when all I came here to do today was talk about my July goals. In other news, we’re heading to the beach this evening for the 4th of July, so that will bring some much needed relaxation that I’m looking forward to! Now I’m rambling again. Where were we? Oh that’s right, July goals..
1. Decide on reception decor
We met with a florist to go over wedding reception flowers and one thing lead to another and before we knew it, we were quoted $5,000!! For flowers. Flowers that wilt and die within a day. I’m sorry, but what in the what!? To be honest, I couldn’t even tell you the difference between a gardenia and a hydrangea, so spending that much on flowers is not worth it if you ask me. So now I’m considering the idea of reusing the bridesmaid bouquets as table center pieces, along with some type of candle setup, per our florist’s suggestion. Have any of you done that before!? Thoughts?? I’m clueless as to where to start here! Since our colors are blush pink and gold, I just want to bring out those colors and I figured flowers are the easiest way to bring out the pink. I’m open to any suggestions here, so please feel free to send them my way if you have any ideas.
2. Share our engagement photos
I already have an exciting save the date reveal post coming soon that I can’t wait to show y’all! I also want to share our engagement photos too. There’s a lot, so it may be a lengthy photo heavy post, but I couldn’t be more excited! They turned out exactly how I had envisioned (insert heart eyed emoji here).
3. Try a workout class
Good news, friends! I found a gym and it felt good to get back into a work out routine. Now my goal is to build up the courage to start doing group classes regularly. It’s been way too many years than I’d like to admit since I’ve done a group workout class, but I know I’d love it so much considering how much I hate cardio machines. Now I just need to get over my fear of not being able to keep up with the rest of the class. If people the age of my grandma can do it, so can I right!?
4. Play tourist in Louisiana
Chris and I are living in our home state of Louisiana now, so we need to get creative and try new things. I want to play tourist and do something I haven’t done before or in a very long time. I’m thinking a swamp tour may be fun!
5. Cook at home every week night
Sometimes cooking at home on week nights is easy and sometimes the temptation for takeout wins. I really need to work on this if I want to continue eating healthy, so I’m making it a priority to try to only eat restaurant food and takeout on the weekends. This is going to be a hard goal to accomplish!
Do you have any July goals you hope to accomplish this month? Hearing other people’s goals motivates me, so feel free to share yours!
*Update- Something has been going on with my comments lately causing me to only get about 1/3 of them via email, so if for any reason you leave a comment and don’t get a response back from me via email, this is why. I apologize! I’m hoping for a fix soon!

These are great goals! I would suggest not spending too much on the flowers…spend it on something else! People will forget the flowers (probably) so spend it something they won’t forget. An excellent DJ to make for a fun party or an open bar, if that’s not already in the plan.

I LOVE flowers, but could not afford what I wanted with real flowers for our wedding this past September. I made my bridesmaid bouquets and mine, with artificial flowers and used artificial ones and some candles with our table numbers for centerpieces. I would be happy to offer help and give you more detail if you’re interested. I have some posts on my blog about my wedding decor, etc. also.
In other words, I can’t believe it’s already July! Cooking at home on weeknights is always what we aim to do, so we can be a little more carefree on the weekends 🙂

$5k for flowers is crazy! I really need to start cooking at home more too. The food eating out is just always so much better!

I feel ya on the wedding planning…. I literally did minimal planning— food, flowers, etc. It was actually perfect though because everything was low-key. My chef brother & I actually baked the wedding cake out selves hahaha. $5k is absolutely ridiculous!
I’m gonna copy you on the workout class + the cooking thing. I have no idea why it’s so intimidating to join those. But it is.

we reused our bouquets! The girls walked in with them and when we got to the head table there was a little vase and they put them in! It was great, and then they had water so when the girls took them home at the end of the night, they still looked good!

Great July goals. I’m still in shock that the summer months are slipping by so quickly. It still feels like the beginning of June. – Katy

These all sound like fantastic goals! We’ve made “cooking home every week night” one of our goals before and it’s so empowering! Great way to save money and clear the cabinet. 🙂

Congrats! What an exciting time for you. I was engaged for 2 years before my wedding so it gave me a lot of time to prepare. Good luck with everything!
