This week has easily been my best week yet, diet wise, although I’m really not great at eating clean without cracking. I typically can only go 2 days max before I need a taste of something bad, but this week has been fairly good! It’s really all about balance. I managed to substitute spaghetti squash in place of pasta several times this week and didn’t give into the urge. If you know me, then you know pasta is my weakness, so this is a huge deal! With that being said though, there are still a few other things that tempt me to throw that four letter word (I’m looking at you, diet) right out the window. They’re my guilty food pleasures and sometimes I just can’t quit them.
First up is chips and queso. I can’t got more than 3 weeks max without getting my Mexican fix. I’ve tried and I just can’t. Give me all the queso please, preferably the white kind, which is surprisingly much harder to find in Dallas.
Then there’s pizza. I don’t need pizza every week. Once a month is fine, sometimes even longer, but you better believe if it’s in front of my face my fingers magically grab a slice. Every time. Give me a double cheese pepperoni pizza and now we’ve got a serious problem!
And don’t even get me started on boiled crawfish and crab legs. I’m basically the seafood queen (insert girl raising hand emoji here). All self control goes right out the window as soon as a steaming 5 pound platter is placed in front of me, but I think most south Louisianians would agree with me on this one.
Let’s not forget about the donuts and coffee either. Is there really a better way to start your day? I don’t think so, unless we’re talking free donuts and coffee, then yes. Speaking of free, I’m going to let you in on a little secret to get free Dunkin’ Donuts coffee! If you haven’t already, sign up for DD Perks using the special code “STARS” and you’ll earn 125 points towards a free beverage, and an additional 125 points with each of your next two purchases.
With the perks, you can earn five points for every dollar spent and once you accrue 200 points, you’ll receive a coupon for a free (any size) beverage of your choice! Not bad, right!?
So tell me, what are your guilty food pleasures? Is there something you can’t quit no matter how hard you’ve tried?
Many thanks to Dunkin’ Donuts for sponsoring this post and supporting The Southern Thing. All opinions are my own.

I definitely am addicted to white queso too. I have been trying to eat better during the week and then give myself cheat days on the weekends and so far, so good haha.

I have several guilty pleasures, but that’s why cheat days are built into diets. =)
