Since I’ve mentioned several times lately that I’m trying to lose some weight and get in the best shape possible, not only to meet my goals, but for my wedding, I figured I’d share some of my favorite fitness apps that have played a crucial role in my journey so far. Having these fitness apps conveniently in my phone have not only kept me motivated, but have helped me hold myself accountable.
1. Fitbit
This has been helpful in so many ways. I mostly use my Fitbit Charge HR in place of my Polar heart rate monitor to track workouts in the gym or walks I take on the days I take a break from the gym. All of your workouts are automatically saved in the app, which is extremely convenient for looking at your week end progress. Other helpful stats it tracks include water intake, food intake, steps, miles, and heart rate. The device and app go way beyond just tracking steps.
2. My Fitness Pal
This is my preferred food diary of choice. Many foods have already been uploaded into the data base so it makes calorie counting a breeze. The app lets you save recipes of your own by manually inputting the information, which is great for non pre-packaged foods. It can also be used for weigh-ins and progress photos to help you track any changes within your body.
3. Couch to 5k
I’m not a runner and never have been a runner, but for someone like me who wishes they could run, this is a great place to start. The app does exactly what the title says. It’s an 8 week program that trains you to do a 5k, working your way up day by day.
4. Map My Run
If tracking the exact distance, pace, and route of your run or walk is something you want, then this app is for you! It works with the GPS of your phone, eliminating the need to wear any type of fitness device. This was my go to for distance tracking prior to my FitBit. It comes in handy, especially during the weekends when I end up doing something unplanned and don’t have my FitBit on to track it.

It’s more than just the app, but I am addicted to ClassPass! I love pulling up the app on the spur of the moment and signing up for a class, or daring myself to sign up for that 6am yoga class the next morning. It definitely gets me motivated!

I have used all of these apps before. I started Couch to 5k in 2011 and ran my first half marathon in 2011, my first marathon in 2013, and completed an Ironman in 2014. I swear to you that I wasn’t a runner before I started Couch to 5k, but it’s the best way to get into running because it starts slowly and doesn’t make you hate it. I love the fitbit too, especially when I take it on runs. Good luck! I’m sure you’ll do great!

My favorite app is the Nike+ app. It interrupts me every so often to tell me what pace I’m running which never fails to make me pick up my feet and run a little bit faster.

I used to LOVE the FitBit app, but then my I had an allergic reaction to my device 🙁 I’m tempted to get a Polar watch though. Did you like yours?

I have fitbit and I love it. My company offers discounts on our insurance premiums for wearing a fitbit and gives us points the more we walk. It’s pretty awesome 🙂

Those are some of my favorite apps also. I got the Apple Watch and made the switch from Fitbit to Apple Watch and I miss using the Fitbit app. My biggest problem is consistency. Once I get too many apps, it’s like having too many notebooks, I spread myself thin and don’t use them as much as I used too.

I wish i could upgrade my Fitbit Flex to the Fitbit HR! I still use the Flex though. I follow the toneitup.com girls and they have an app which has their daily workouts which i really like;).

Great list! I love My Fitness Pal too. I also love Nike Training Club for great workouts. I do Tone It Up as well.
