Essential Oils are my favorite thing to talk about these days. I don’t go anywhere without my oils and I have found so many ways to use them in my everyday life, from replacing my medicine cabinet, to making skin care products and even household cleaning products. The possibilities are endless. Along with my essential oils, there are a few essential oil supplies I like to use as well. I’ve put together a list of my top must have essential oil supplies and accessories that I think everyone should have along with their oils. See below for my top 20 essential oil supplies!
If you’re new to essential oils or want to know more about them, check out my Essential Oils 101: A Beginner’s Guide to Essential Oils post.
Top 20 Must Have Essential Oil Supplies and Accessories:
1. Essential oil bag – Since I don’t go anywhere without my oils, I needed something to carry them in. This Etsy shop has the cutest bags, in my opinion, and they’re the perfect size to fit in your purse for when you’re on the go.
2. Essential oil diffuser necklace – One of my favorite must have essential oil accessories is an essential oil diffuser necklace. Shameless plug here, but I make these and will be more than glad to customize it however you like! These diffuser necklaces work by placing a drop of your favorite oil into the leather insert inside the diffuser locket, which creates an aroma for you to enjoy your oils throughout the entire day. Diffuser necklaces are also a lifesaver when you’re anxious during traveling, having a stressful day, or need a quick pick me up.
3. Reference Guide for Essential Oils app – This app lists every essential oil and blend and tells you all about the chemical makeup of the oils and how to use them. It’s the perfect on the go companion since you’ll always have it with you in your phone.
4. Essential Oils Pocket Reference (6th Edition) – If there was a bible of essential oils, this would be it! This book by Life Science Publishing literally tells you detailed information on everything you need to know about essential oils. Whether you’re a beginner or you’ve been using oils for a while, I highly recommend every oil user to get this book. This was the first thing I bought to go with my oils and after reading, I felt like an oil expert! My favorite feature is the reference section where you can look up a specific medical ailment you’d like to treat and it will give you a protocol for each ailment.
5. Essential oil storage box – It’s advised that you don’t store your oils in direct light. This box is a great option to store all of your oils since it holds 40 bottles of oil and is portable.
6. Carrier stick – Most organic essential oils require dilution, and I typically recommend using coconut oil for this, but an easy and less messy option that you can carry in your purse is this carrier stick. It’s a carrier oil in solid form and kind of resembles a lip balm tube.
7. Oil bottle cap labels – You should always store your oils in upright position, but when you do, a lot of times you won’t be able to see the labels on the bottle. These bottle cap labels help you easily identify your oils and will save you much time when searching for a specific oil! I order mine through Young Living (it’s much cheaper with a wholesale discount ~$3), but if you can find them on Amazon too. I don’t ever recommend ordering essential oils (even if it’s a reputable brand) off of Amazon as you pose the risk of receiving adulterated oils, but for something like a label, it won’t hurt.
8. Epson salt – Essential oils work great when added to epson salt for a relaxing bath and make for cute DIY gifts. Also, if you have an empty essential oil bottle you want to clean and re-use, a cool trick I learned is to let your bottle sit in some epson salt. The salt will absorb any excess oil and you can use the salt in a bath later.
9. Coconut oil – As I’ve previously mentioned, most essential oils require dilution, so you’ll need a carrier oil on hand. Coconut oil is not only a great carrier oil option, but is great for making your own essential oil creams too. This natural essential oil pain relief cream tutorial is a great example of ways to use coconut oil to make your own essential oil products.
10. Home diffuser – Everybody should have an essential oil diffuser in their home, not only for the amazing scent, but for therapeutic health benefits as well! For example, I personally love diffusing this trio of essential oils for seasonal discomfort when my allergies seem to be acting up. Your best deal on a a quality diffuser is to get a Premium Starter Kit which comes with 11 different oils, plus a diffuser.
11. Small mason jars – These are must have essential oil supplies if you’re interested in making your own essential oil products. These jars are the perfect size for storing DIY essential oil creams, bath salts, etc.
12. Vegetable capsules – if you’re going to take pure essential oils internally, you need to put them in a vegetable capsule for ingestion. Size 00 are pretty standard.
13. Lip balm tubes – Pinterest is full of DIY Essential oil recipes, so if you’re planning on making your own lip balm or carrier sticks, you’ll want these tubes on hand. You can also purchase larger tubes for DIY essential oil deodorant!
14. Glass water bottle – A fun way to change up your normal water routine is to add a drop of your favorite pure essential oils, such as lemon, lime, orange, or peppermint. You should never put oils in plastic though, so make sure you use a glass water bottle.
15. USB diffuser – This is one of those must have essential oil accessories for those that are always on the go in the car or working on their computer. It’s a diffuser that conveniently plugs into a USB port and is very portable since it’s about the size of a flash drive.
16. Gentle Babies – This book by Debra Rayburn is a must have for moms or moms to be. It explains safety information for using essential oils while pregnant, on babies, and children.
17. Glass roller bottles – Roller bottles are probably one of my most used essential oil supplies. These are a must have for when making your own blends and the roller tops make it very easy to apply the oils.
18. Glass spray bottle – These are great for making your own essential oil recipes, like Thieve’s hand sanitizer, room spray, bug spray, or perfume.
19. Eye dropper bottles – The droppers in these bottles are very convenient for making your own blends to ensure you are getting the proper amount of drops needed. They make for great soap making supplies for this DIY lavender essential oil body wash too! I also like to fill several dropper bottles with fractionated coconut oil for my carrier oil on the go and also use the droppers to fill the remainder of a vegetable capsule.
20. Sample bottles – Sharing is caring! One of my favorite things to do is share my essential oils with others. I think it’s something everyone should understand and be able to use, and nothing is better than letting someone experience the power of essential oils first hand. These small sample bottles are great essential oil supplies that come in handy for sharing.

I never knew about most of these supplies and accessories, even though I’ve been using essential oils for years. I have a home diffuser (an AromaStream bcause it doesn’t use water or heat) and obviously a storage box. Maybe I still have some almond oil (probably gone over its expiration date), which I thought was the preferred carrier oil. I mostly diffuse my oils though and hardly make skin care products with them. I’d love to though.
