You know the saying opposites attract? That couldn’t be more true for me and Chris. We’re always on the same page when it comes down to the important stuff though, and that’s all that matters. One of the things we can almost never agree on though is how we prefer our food. He wants all the barbecue and ketchup with his chicken strips, I don’t want any. He likes his cereal dry, I like mine with milk. What gives? One thing’s for sure though. We’re both digging the sweets lately and we nearly battled it out for the last homemade cereal bar. Maybe we should stick to being foodie opposites, that is, if he decides to let me have them all because these homemade Honey Nut Cheerio and Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal bars were a total hit.
The homemade cereal bars are quick and easy to make with only three ingredients and they’re perfect for an afternoon snack, after school snack, late night dessert, you name it.
WHAT YOU NEED:
1 10.5 oz. bag of mini marshmallows
3 tbs. butter
6 cups of cereal*
While almost any cereal will do, I highly recommend trying this recipe with either Honey Nut Cheerios or Cinnamon Toast Crunch first. The Cheerios are especially great for a sweet but neutral taste with this recipe and the Cinnamon Toast Crunch is perfect for fall. I chose to do both, so I just halved the amount of cereal for each -three cups of Honey Nut Cheerios and three cups of Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
WHAT YOU DO:
In a microwave safe bowl, heat up the marshmallows and butter for approx. two minutes, stirring occasionally until smooth. Combine the cereal into the marshmallow and butter mixture and stir until evenly coated. If using two different cereals, separate the marshmallow and butter mixture into separate bowls first. Spread the coated cereal into a buttered pan and press firmly to flatten into shape.
Let cool for approx. 15 minutes then cut into squares and serve.
I stocked up for everything I needed at Tom Thumb during their Stock Up Sale currently going on until 10/13! I probably looked like a college student again with my stacks of cereal, but can you blame me!?

These would be really fun to make with the kiddos I nanny! We always have left over cereal. I didn't realize it didn't take much butter so that was a pleasant surprise 😉
Dara @ The Southern Thing says
I'm sure they would enjoy that! Plus it's a great way to use the extra cereal!
