I’ve had my fair share of dry and damaged hair. It all started with a trip to the salon for what I thought would be a good idea to put blonde highlights in my dark brown hair. Let’s just say after a few failed blonde attempts that left half of my head bleached and the other half bright orange, two dark brown dyes to correct it, leaving me with grey strands of hair that literally broke off from a simple touch, and ten hours later (not even kidding), I finally was free to leave. Guess who’s never going blonde again? This girl!
So after I destroyed my perfectly healthy hair, I had to step up my game to do what I could to save the pieces I did still have. This meant adding a few more products into my routine to repair all the damage. It’s been over a year now since the catastrophe that took place in the salon, so I’ve put together a list of my favorite life changing hair products that not only reversed my damaged hair, but save me time and some.
One. Joico k-pak reconstruct shampoo. Even before I destroyed my hair, this was my go to shampoo. It helps repair any damage, which is necessary if you blow dry, straighten, or curl your hair with heat.
Two. Matrix Biolage fiber strong bamboo conditioner. I swear by this conditioner. After my salon catastrophe, this was the only conditioner I could put in my hair for months that didn’t leave it tangled into a hot mess express rats nest. I used the Joico k-pak shampoo and this conditioner and it worked wonders.
Three. Aussie 3 minute miracle. This is a leave in deep conditioning treatment that you apply to your hair after your regular conditioner. Just leave it sit for a few minutes and then rinse. I’m pretty sure this helped speed up the process of damage repair for my dry mane.
Four. Organix hydrating macadamia oil moisture mask. I like to use this and the Aussie 3 minute miracle interchangeably. Both leave your hair soft and smooth. I highly recommend incorporating a deep conditioning treatment into your hair routine, even if your hair is healthy!
Five. It’s a 10 miracle leave in. This is tied as one of my favorite spray leave ins for pre blow dry. It does everything from repairing damage, adding shine, controlling frizz, protecting color, detangling, preventing split ends, and is also a thermal protector.
Six. Kenra thickening glaze. If you have flat, thin hair like myself, this will become your new best friend. It does just what it says- thickens your hair. Just apply before you blow dry and let it work its magic.
Seven. Kenra blow dry spray. Also up for the tie is this stuff. I use it interchangeably with the It’s a 10 miracle leave in. This does many of the same features as the It’s a 10, but is great when you’re pressed for time since it significantly reduces blow dry time. I use this in the mornings before work, because let’s face it, I’m always pressed for time.
Eight. Organix moroccan argan oil spray. This is the perfect weightless spray to add extra shine pre and post blow drying. I usually only apply before I dry since I usually have oily hair, but if you feel your hair needs a little extra oil to it, this is great because it won’t over do it.
Nine. It’s a 10 miracle shine spray. This is another product that I swear by since my catastrophe. I’ve always been a fan, but like the Biolage conditioner, this was another product that I couldn’t function without in my dry hair. I like to say this stuff was a godsend because it seriously worked miracles. I spray it in my hair before and after blow drying and it adds shine and eliminates frizz. This product gave me the closest feeling to my pre damaged hair.
What are your favorite hair products? Do you have any recommendations that I should try? I would love to hear!
