Haappyy Mardi Gras!! Notice anything different around here? That’s right, the blog finally got a makeover! After countless hours of researching, creating, deleting, and recreating, it’s finally here and I can officially say that I did it myself! The days of paying $100+ for a blog design are long gone. It wouldn’t have been possible without a little help from Marquis and of course Sarah’s awesome tutorials, but it was well worth the wait. Thank you, ladies!
Now where were we? Oh that’s right, Mardi Gras! It’s Fat Tuesday and this Mardi Gras season has had me homesick like no other. From seeing all the snapchats from my best friends out in the quarter to all the pictures of gallon jugs of daiquiris and parades from my mom, I was quite tempted to book the next flight out to Nola just to be home this past weekend.
The final weekend before Mardi Gras day is my favorite and always the best in my opinion. You have all of the super krewe parades and fancy balls that weekend and it’s pretty much the last time to take advantage of Bourbon Street during the season before the really crazy tourists overflow it on Fat Tuesday.
It’s kind of hard to explain just how fun it is to those that have never experienced Mardi Gras. Imagine an entire city state in full party mode, crowds of people covering the streets dressed in ball gowns, beads, tutus, costumes, you name it, with drinks in hand and having a damn good time. There’s music playing on every corner, from local jazz artists putting on a street performance to the parade goers getting crunk along the parade route to whatever song the passing float is blaring. Add in the best food you’ll ever taste, and a group of your best friends and family and you have Mardi Gras.
This year, Mardi Gras for me has been a bit different though. Since I unfortunately couldn’t be there this year, I went full blown crazy person mode. I may or may not have streamed all the parades online, as well as my favorite New Orleans radio station just to hear Mardi Gras songs and parade route updates. Crazy? Yes. And I’m okay with it. It almost made me feel like I was at home and it was just what I needed.
I also may have taken it one step further when the UPS man came knocking on my door Friday with a king cake in hand. That’s when I realized that I had to make this celebration complete. So what does a homesick, Mardi Gras missing, Louisianian do? They get a box of Popeye’s chicken and drink daiquiris out of Pat O’s hurricane glasses.
Because what Mardi Gras celebration is complete without a box of Popeye’s chicken!? If you remember from this post, you know you can’t have Mardi Gras without it!
Have you ever experienced Mardi Gras? What did you think!?

I have been to Baton Rouge many times, but never New Orleans (don't get me started on how much I hate my friend for not talking me there when he lived in BR). Its been about 3 years since I've been there and sometimes I get really nostalgic for Louisiana…so I bought a king cake this weekend and am having gumbo for lunch today 🙂

Your blog design looks so pretty!!! You should really think about starting up your own design site if you haven't already! I have always wanted to try King Cake. Hopefully one year I'll actually be in New Orleans to finally try some!
